TOURIST BOSS COMES NORTH TO LISTEN TO LOCAL INTERESTS

October 15, 2001 12:00 AM

Peter Lederer, Chairman of VisitScotland.com (formerly the Scottish Tourist Board) has accepted an invitation from North MP John Thurso to attend a public meeting on Monday afternoon, 22nd October at the Ulbster Arms, Halkirk.

John Thurso said:

"Some time ago I asked Mr Lederer to visit the Far North to meet hoteliers and other tourism providers to hear at first hand the particular challenges and opportunities which we face. I am delighted that he is providing this opportunity for people to put their concerns directly and I hope the meeting will be well attended."

News of the meeting has been welcomed by local tourist industry representatives.

HOST Chairman, Norman Lauritsen, said:

"I am very pleased that Peter Lederer is visiting the Far North. I hope there will be a good turn out from our members."

Elaine Lewis who chairs North of Scotland Hospitality, said:

"Our members have been advised and I know many will want to take this excellent opportunity to meet Mr Lederer."

John Thurso added:

"Tourism is an important revenue generator in the North. Recent international events have made it more important than ever that our voice should be heard. I hope that anyone whose business is connected to tourism will take advantage of this unique chance to air their views."

If you are a resident of the Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
