Local MP John Thurso has added his weight to the bid by the UKAEA to administer any new pension schemes which might flow from the setting up of the Liabilities Management Authority (LMA) at the Authority's Pension Office in Thurso.
In a letter to Patricia Hewett, MP, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, the MP makes reference to the glowing report which the Thurso Pensions Office received in the Quinquennial Review published last year.
John Thurso said:
"Very careful scrutiny was made of the UKAEA Pensions Office during the course of the Quinquennial Review. The Government conclude that it was delivering an excellent service - effective, efficient and representing very good value for money. The Thurso office beat off competition from the private sector and it is very well placed today to expand its operations. I hope the fullest consideration will be given to placing any new pension schemes in Thurso's capable hands".
