Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross MP John Thurso has this week called for a Region-wide public debate on the future development of windpower and other renewable energy sources in the Highlands. In a letter to Highland Convener, David Green, the MP urges the Council, as planning authority, to engage the public in considering the general principles involved as well as considering the appropriate location and extent of potential developments.
John Thurso said:
"The North has immense potential for renewable energy. However, it is vital that developments fit in both with the environment and the legitimate aspirations of residents. It is therefore proper to have a serious debate now rather than see a series of piecemeal developments.
I believe it is right for the Highland Council, as planning authority, to initiate this debate."
