Local MP John Thurso has taken the next step in his campaign to bring broadband technology to the North. He has today emailed or written to businesses across the North Highlands asking them to join his e-campaign
The MP said:
"I was astounded at the response I received from constituents when I called in the House of Commons for the North to be broadband enabled. I am therefore today launching, appropriately, an e-campaign to help make Government and the telecommunications industry aware of the need for this vital piece of infrastructure in the North.
"I have received a letter from the Chairman of BT advising of their new on-line registration system for broadband and I am asking all individuals and businesses who need broadband not to let this opportunity pass.
I am asking two things - please register NOW with BT (www.bt.com/broadband/extra) and let me know of your support for my campaign by emailing me on thursoj@parliament.uk
"Broadband can set the Highlands free to compete on equal terms worldwide. However, without broadband, there is a real threat to many of our established businesses. It is vital that Government is made to understand its responsibility in ensuring that Highland businesses are not forced into an e-Clearance."
