Thurso welcomes BT target of 100% broadband coverage for Scotland

November 18, 2003 12:00 AM

Following the announcement by BT of the target of 100% broadband coverage for Scotland, Liberal Democrat Shadow Scotland Spokesman John Thurso commented:

"Subsequent to the recent meeting I had with the Chairman of BT on his visit to Caithness and his assurance that BT wanted to be part of the solution rather than the problem, I was hopeful of further triggers being announced. I am very pleased that the announcement by BT has exceeded my expectations as they have now set triggers for so many small exchanges in the North.

"It has been a long campaign waged by many to persuade BT of the value of broadband to our communities, and it is now vital that we all encourage as many people as possible to register so that these exchanges move from having triggers to being broadband enabled.

"Broadband offers a real opportunity for the North to compete in information technology services worldwide. We must grasp this opportunity with both hands."

If you are a resident of the Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
