Thurso welcomes innovative decommissioning apprenticeships

September 3, 2003 12:00 AM

Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross MP, John Thurso, has welcomed the announcement of the UK's first modern apprenticeships in nuclear operations and decommissioning, now formally under way at Dounreay.

Speaking from Westminster, John Thurso said:

"This is a cause for celebration for the future of the Caithness economy. It is a step on the road to making Dounreay the world centre of excellence for decommissioning.

If the Far North is to retain the benefit of decommissioning spend, it is essential that we develop a skills base which can be exported on the back of the lessons learned at Dounreay.

For the future, I hope there will be many more young people from the area coming forward to take advantage of the high quality training now on offer."

If you are a resident of the Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
