LocaL MP John Thurso has welomed the announcement by Lewis Macdonald, MSP, Deputy Minister for Transport at the Scottish Executive, that the Government has selected the lower valley floor route (the red route) as the most appropriate option to deliver the A9 trunk road improvements between Helmsdale and the Ord of Caithness.
John Thurso said:
"This is the option which Jamie Stone and I have been pressing hard since we attended a meeting with the Transport Minister in Edinburgh last year.
Minor improvements to bends would not constitute an acceptable improvement, and the results of the recent public consultation show that this is a view which is shared by an overwhelming majority within the community. It is very encouraging that so many in the area should have taken the time and trouble to respond to the consultation, and that the Minister should have taken on board their views in reaching his final decision."
