Speaking in Golspie this weekend, Far North Liberal Democrat MP John Thurso hailed the passage of the Land Reform (Scotland) Bill as "an historic opportunity." The MP said:
"It is personally very satisfying to see measures that my grandfather introduced as Liberal Party policy in the 1920's finally reach the Statute Book.
"The bill offers an historic opportunity for many of the remoter communities to find modern and creative solutions to the challenge of securing a decent and sustainable livelihood.
"The obvious success of Melness, Assynt, and Eigg have each shown what can happen when local people are able to from their own destiny, and I look forward to helping other suitable communities who choose this route in the future."
