Far North MP John Thurso, commenting following presentation of the reports of UN weapons inspectors to the Security Council , has again warned of the dangers of the US embarking on military action in Iraq without the full sanction of the United Nations and of the UK joining her without an affirmative vote in the House of Commons.
The MP said:
"The recent report produced by the weapons inspectors makes it clear that questions remain to be answered by the Iraq regime. However, the inspectors have asked for more time to complete their job, and this should be granted. It is essential that every possible avenue for a peaceful resolution be fully explored.
"Since last summer I have made clear my opposition to military action without a UN mandate. It is clear from the many messages I have received from constituents that this view is widely shared."
Reinforcing his views this week in response to a letter received from Church leaders in the constituency, John Thurso set out his wider concerns for the long-term stability of the Middle East and global fight against terrorism if the West should rush to precipitate military action.
