Local MP, John Thurso has welcomed news from Transport Scotland that work on Phase 2 of the A9 Navidale-Ord of Caithness improvement scheme could finally get underway this autumn.
The MP has been assured that funds are still firmly in place for the completion of this capital programme - the delay has been due solely to a formal appeal lodged against the Compulsory Purchase Order in January of this year.
Commenting, John Thurso said:
"I am very pleased to learn that an end is in sight to the completion of these much needed improvement works.
The final stretch of the new road will make a significant contribution to improving road safety. The present alignment offers little opportunity for overtaking and can regularly lead to driver frustration, as well as unreliable journey times. While the objection to the Compulsory Purchase Order is not yet finally resolved, I shall be maintaining all possible pressure upon Transport Scotland to secure an early outcome."
