Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross MP John Thurso said it was "a tragedy" one of Scotland's oldest banks could be lost in a wave of speculation against an otherwise sound business.
Lord Thurso, a leading member of the Commons Treasury Committee undertaking a review of banking regulation, said: "It is too early to say what the impact will be but every Scottish MP will be lobbying to make sure that the Edinburgh HQ of the Bank of Scotland remains intact."
