2 mbps is enough to stream a programme online
Local MP, John Thurso, has welcomed the announcement by the Government that it intends to create a Universal Service Obligation for Broadband with a minimum speed of 2 megabits per second (Mbps).
He said:
"Fast and reliable access to the network enables local companies to do business on an equal footing worldwide and local householders to access the same service as anywhere else in the country. Too many households in the Far North are either excluded from receiving Broadband or receive a minimal service. The announcement by the Government that they will introduce a USO with a minimum speed of 2 Mbps is welcome and something I have long campaigned for.
"Having made the commitment, the Government should move quickly to ensure that it happens so that the problems encountered by many local people are resolved".
