Thurso encourages local charities to go green with EDF energy

May 24, 2009 12:00 AM

GREAN visitLocal MP John Thurso is highlighting an opportunity for non-profit making or charitable organisations in the constituency to apply for funding towards the cost of renewable energy installations or renewable energy feasibility studies.

EDF Energy's Green Fund is offering grants of up to £30,000 to help cover the cost of small scale renewable energy technologies, including wind turbines, solar panels and ground source heat pumps. Any one project may receive a grant of up to £30,000 and since its inception EDF Energy say that the fund has made awards worth in excess of £3.7million to more than 200 community projects.

John Thurso said:

"The support being offered through the EDF Green Fund offers local community groups a chance to reduce both their energy bills and carbon footprint by a significant amount. At a time of increasing economic pressures, this funding could boost the long-term prospects of many of the charities and non-profit organisations that do so much good work across the constituency, and help in the fight against climate change."

John Thurso is encouraging any local groups who think they may be eligible for support to consider submitting an application. The next funding round is open until August 2009 and full details of the scheme, application forms and eligibility details can be found online at www.edfenergy.com/greenfund

If you are a resident of the Caithness, Sutherland and Easter Ross constituency and are writing to discuss any issue that Parliament or government is responsible for, you must provide your home address as MPs are generally only permitted to act on behalf of constituents.

If you are not a constituent, you do not need to provide your address, but the matters we can deal with are more limited and you may wish to contact your local MP in the first instance.
