Lib Dem Shadow Secretary of State for Business, John Thurso today saw his motion to make companies have a person available to answer complaints strongly backed by the conference.
Speaking in support of the policy paper "Are you being served?" John said there were few things more infuriating than having been forced to go through a long list of several sets of numbers just to be told by an automatic message to call back later.
He said the problem was particularly bad in remote areas like the north where it is often physically impossible to go to a head quarters to deal with an issue in person.
"The amount of casework I get from people at the end of their tether from struggling to deal with a centralized bureaucracy is deeply worrying" said John "making one of the first options in a call centre's telephone response system to speak with a person is definitely a step in the right direction."
