St Duthas Special School in Tain has been awarded the coveted green flag of eco-school status at a BBQ and presentation at the school today.
Family and friends of the school were presented with the flag by local MP John Thurso - a regular visitor the school.
Pupils and staff at the school have been working to improve their environmental awareness for five years and the green flag is the highest recognition of their achievements. Over the years they have significantly improved the school grounds as well as reduced its rubbish, increased recycling and studied a number of subjects to help with environmental awareness such as horticulture and forest school.
John Thurso said: "The flag signifies a significant effort. This really special achievement goes hand in hand with the wonderful ethos of the school."
"As a keen gardener myself I am especially impressed by what pupils and staff have done with the grounds."
