John is one of 14 members of the House of Commons Treasury Select Committee. The Committee is responsible for examining the policies, expenditure and administration of the Treasury as well as agencies and bodies associated with it. These include HM Revenues and Customs, the Bank of England, the Financial Services Authority and the Royal Mint among others.
The Committe took on particular importance during the banking crisis as a forum where MPs could cross examine significant figures in the crisis such as Sir Fred Goodwin and Melvyn King the Governor of the Bank of England.
